I had the chance to spend Spring vacation in Cairo, Egypt in 1993. I had the feeling of being close to home, especially when I saw the face of the Sphinks. it was mind blowing. I have since had a DNA test done and learned my relationship to the Mendi people of Sierra Leone. I would love to visit there one day , but even if I never do, I feel like I belong and I know that slavery was not the beginning, it was just a step in the life of my family.
Cairo is amazing, particularly Giza, of course. But it is the tip of the iceberg. Cairo might feel close to home, but I bet Sierra Leone will feel like home. Even if the people look at you side-eyed sometimes, it can’t take away that feeling!

I found out yesterday that my Physical Therapist is from Cairo. I was excited to talk to him about my wonderful travel experience to his country.
Out of curiosity, is he Arabic?
I don't know if he is Arabic, We just talked generally about Egypt and how nice the people were.
